This is Ms. McKenzie‘s first year at APCS!
I’m so excited to be teaching at Asheville Pisgah Christian School and can’t wait to get to know you and your family!
Teaching is truly where God has led me, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love helping children discover their God-given potential, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning. Watching those “aha!” moments is one of the greatest joys of being a teacher.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University in South Carolina, along with a Read to Succeed Reading Endorsement. Over the past eight years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching every grade from Pre-K through third grade at Captain Gilmer Christian School.
Helping children become confident readers is one of my greatest passions. To better serve my students, I earned my Associate-Level Orton-Gillingham Certification and my Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) Teaching Level Certification. These specialized certifications have given me additional training in structured literacy and evidence-based reading instruction to support all learners, including those with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences.
My husband, Eddie, and I have been married for over 20 years, and he’s still my high school sweetheart! We have two wonderful children, Addison and Carson, and a spoiled Maltipoo named Sparky who definitely thinks he runs the house!
I grew up in the small town of Olanta, South Carolina, so I’m a country girl at heart—you’ll probably notice it from my accent! Our family now calls the Asheville area home, and we actively attend Foster Seventh-day Adventist Church.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, taking pictures, and enjoying the outdoors.
I’m so thankful God has led me to APCS, and I look forward to partnering with your family for a wonderful year of learning, growing, and making lasting memories together!
